Race Reports

Casper Marathon
Author Last Post
I ran the Casper Marathon on Sunday, June 2, 2013. The weather tried to trick runners as the temperature was in the high 30s (maybe up to 40) at the 6:30 start, but the forecast high was for 85. Fortunately I have learned (from experience) to dress for the finish, not the start. The course was a bit hilly. None of the hills were bad but the course did go up and down a lot. We started 4 or miles outside of town, then spent the rest of the distance in a complex of loops in the city, mostly on bicycle/pedestrian paths. We did get to see a lot of the North Platte River; this path would make for a good 8 or 10 mile training run. I was fortunate enough to beat 4:20 (4:19:59.96) and finish while the temperature was only in the 60s. The food selection was the best I have ever seen at a marathon, a wide selection of fresh fruit, an equally wide selection of cookies, muffins, etc., and a lot of pizza and subs. The beer selection was mediocre, Bud, PBR, Bud Light, and so on; no craft beers. Nonetheless this was a great race. My last report was about Boise, for which I had a 2.5 mile or so walk back to my motel. In this case the finish line was in my motel's parking lot. If you are looking for a Wyoming marathon (or just want to get away for a race) this one is really, really good.
