Race Reports

Children's Charity 8k
Author Last Post
We had good weather in Hanahan for the Children's Charity 8k on Saturday, 25 September. It was too warm to describe as ideal but the modest cloud cover kept the temperatures bearable. The Dolphin Track Club showed up so the average age was lower than normal, and many of their members took home age group awards in the youth categories. There were also plenty of high-school runners present, as winner Karl Walsh was followed by three teenagers. The big news was Ed Brinkley running 35:13 to set the South Carolina record for the male 70 and over age group in the 8k event. My colleague Steve Nida, Dean of The Citadel Graduate College, has been tracking his mileage for a couple of decades now and passed the 25,000 mile mark in this race. I had a good day as I took second in the male 55 to 59 age group, which is better than I did at the Francis Marion Dirt Dash half marathon two weeks ago (when I received honorable mention on the obituary page).
